Magic the Gathering Card Game

What sets and blocks are currently standard legal in magic: the gathering? Are these cards legal!?

I want to get back into Magic: The Gathering and I haven't played in a couple years. I just wanted to know which sets/blocks are currently legal for standard (DCI, FNM) events? I know Conflux was just released, but I would like for someone to break it all down for me. I think tenth is the oldest legal set? How much longer will tenth be legal? Also, are foil promo cards legal for these events? (the foil cards with the symbol behind the text). Please help!

  1. 10th lowern morning tide shadowmoore eveningtide shards of alara and conflux 11th comes out later this year and alara reborn comes out in april i think its on the 20th
  2. The legal sets are currently: 10th Edition Lorwyn Morningtide Shadowmoor Eventide Shards of Alara Conflux Standard consists of the last Core Set (in this case, 10th Edition), and the last 2 blocks (In this case, Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block and Shards of Alara). In April, a new set will be added to Alara block (Alara Reborn), but nothing will rotate out. 11th Edition comes out sometime after that later this year (but much later, not any time soon), which will rotate 10th Edition out. And foil promo cards are legal for tournaments. As long as the promo was made by the DCI and distributed by the DCI, it's legal (as long as the card itself is legal). Remember, they hand out promos that are not legal in Standard - so make sure you check what set they are from before you play them.
