How would I expand on a non-existing Magic the Gathering collection?
Yeah, I just heard about Magic the Gathering and I think it is very cool, mature, and strategy-type card game. First off, I want to have a good collection of cards so I can create a deck from it. Yes, I saw all the tutorial videos, so I want to buy as much cards for atleast 150 dollars. I don't know my color. Please tell me what should I get[a lot of booster packs, theme decks of all colors, or booster boxes], so I can have a variety of cards in my collection. So what happenes if I get 2 booster packs out of like 10 cheap sets. Will that help?

- Well starters usually buy booster packs and theme decks etc. But an experienced Magic player will look up good combos online and buy the cards he needs online from ebay or starcitygames.com But you are a beginner, and I understand that you want to start a collection. Trust me I spent a lot of money on booster packs and in the end they always come up short for what kind of a deck you could make with $150 from buying the cards you need online. Now if you play a lot with friends or whatever you should really look up some different decks online, just google it. But if you just need a hobby booster packs are fine, but a bit pricey for the cards you get. about $4.00 for 1 booster pack. Buy 10 booster packs for 40 bucks, and you will get a large assortment of cards but many duplicates. You could always go on ebay and see if anyone is selling a big assortment of cards. These people are ususally finished with Magic the gathering and want to sell their cards because they bought way too many frigin booster packs.
- i cant say anything about the price, but i can help you on building your deck. i always recommend a red and black deck for its aggresive power. look at this: you want to kill your opponents fast: red and black you want to kill your enemies hard: green deck (the most destructive creatures) you dont really want to win, you just want your opponet to NOT win: blue deck for its counter spells. since your a starter, you dont need those monshtrous rare cards (atleast not yet). focus first on playing simple cards. this will help condition your mind to the game. anyway, try the website i posted below:
- i am glad to see that you feel that way. many people will just dismiss magic as a children's game because of the stigma yugioh places on the TCG industry. I am sorry about the other answerers their advice is not helpful to a new player at all. if i where you knowing what i know now, i would first purchase 3 10th edition theme decks of the same colour, and then 8 or so tenth edition boosters and ask a more experienced player to help me build a deck out of the cards i had received. as a beginner you may have difficulty recognising all the in's and out's and pitfalls of deckbuilding. have the more experienced player tell you what she is doing and why she is doing it. 10th edition is the simplest set, and it has some decent cards, but most importantly it is the easiest to understand and best set to help a newer player understand the game. also you should find a casual play group and play as often as you can with more experienced players. as far as i can tell this will set you back about,$69.50 um also i would recommend purchasing the green tenth edition theme deck, it is by far the most poweful, and i reccommend 3 copies for consistency, there is nothing worse than playing a deck with only one copy of something in it. What i am telling you to do is how i wish i had started playing magic.
