Magic the Gathering Card Game

Magic the Gathering strategy for blue decks? ?

I'm just wondering what some good strategies are for blue decks in magic the gathering. I'm not sure how blue decks are supposed to operate so I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I have the following deck. Basically I was thinking I could get some unblockable creatures out, and be able to draw more cards, to get more creatures out and also counterspells, to take out their bigger creatures or threats. Here's my decklist. Let me know what you think. Creatures 16 Morphling x2 Cloud Elemental x4 Cloud Sprite x2 Sage Owl x4 Inkfathom Infiltrator 1 Phantom Warrior 1 Noggle Bandit x2 Spells 20 Cancel x4 Unsummon x4 Remove Soul x2 Ancestral Vision 1 Counsel of the Soratami x3 Sift x4 More?????? Not sure what else to add

  1. This looks pretty good for a random collection of cards. The first thing you should know is that Morphling is one of the best cards in the game. Back in the day when Morphling was legal in T2, pretty much everyone played a monoblue deck with tons of counterspells, and just 4 Morphling as the win condition. That's how good it is. Anyway, I'd also suggest that you replace the Council of the Soratamis with Mulldrifter (Mulldrifter is a common from Lorwyn, so it shouldn't be hard to get). Mulldrifter is strictly better then Council, since it can be Evoked for the same effect as the Council as well as be played for 5 mana to get a 2/2 flyer and 2 cards. Other then that, I can't really say I have any suggestions. Obviously from this deck your cardpool is limited, so I don't want to suggest you do things like get 3 more Ancestral Vision (a very good card, by the way). However, remember to keep your deck this same number of cards. Put in 24 Island, and you'll have the ideal landbase for this deck, as well as the perfect 60 cards.
  2. That's pretty good. From my perspective, a regular Blue deck should be a counterspell-unblockable creature deck. A couple Suggestions. Phantom Warrior is a great card. You should have 4 of them in your deck. And then get maybe 2 Covert Operatives, from Legions, i think. Its a common. Then get 4 Boomerangs, they're 6th Edition commons. It returns ANY target permanent to it's owner's hand. It costs 2 Blue mana to play. It's really good when you have a great creature about to get killed that you own, You play it on that creature before it gets killed, and its back in your hand unharmed where you can play it the very next turn.
