In Magic : The gathering card game, can you use shards of alara cards with other types?
Can you use the shards of alara type cards along with another type of card in magic the gathering or do they all have to be from the same type of magic the gathering deck ?

- If u r playing a block deck then yes (block deck means only cards from that block, shards of alara, conflux, alara reborn), otherwise you can put them together with any other cards, unless u r playing a type 2, type 1.5, type 1.x, or type 1.0 game then they are far different rules
- Sorry,can't help.
- It all depends. If you play in a Block format, then all cards from the Shards of Alara block [Shards of Alara / Conflux / Alara Reborn] must be in the same deck. In Standard format, you can use Shards of Alara cards with any other block that is legal. Right now, the next 2 blocks that are moving OUT of Standard are Tenth Edition and Lorwyn / Morningtide. I believe in other Formats (Extended and Beyond) you can use Shards of Alara with those old cards. In Casual, any card goes in with any other card.
- sure :)
- You can in some situations. If you played casually with friends, then put whatever you want in the deck (if your friends are that casual). But if you want play in tournaments, it will depend. There are different kinds of tournament formats that determine what editions you can use. Watch this video on youtube. It's simple to read and the music is nice :D If you don't want to watch it, then I'll answer your question in a shorter way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKVffGHxv6E There is a format called Block. Block tournaments let you use almost any edition, but your cards can only be from the same block. A block is a group of 3 editions that are similar to one another, like the Shards of Alara Block. Your deck may only contain cards from the same block, and I believe basic lands can be from any editions because they all do the same thing. Another format is Extended. Extended lets you use a lot more editions and they don't have to be grouped together like Block. I think there are like 20 editions you can use in Extended. There are other formats that would allow you to mix them up, but if you watch that video, you'll see it all.
- yes
