1. Good Question. If you search the official Magic: The Gathering database, there are 8845 legal cards, plus 222 cards from Un-sets. However, this does not include 5 exclusive promo cards distributed in very limited supply. This is a total of 9072 cards. Furthermore, this count does not include reprints, foils, alternate art promos, and the like. If you account for foils, alternate art promos, and repints, the number more than doubles.
